Bi-fold, Tri-fold?

Bi-Fold Futon Mattresses

Bi-fold mattresses fold once down the length, in the middle of the mattress. They are commonly used for a couch, folding parallel to the long side of the mattress. The majority of futon mattresses sold today are bi-fold mattresses. They cost a little more than the simplest tri-fold mattress, but the are much more comfortable in the long run and last longer without compacting.

Tri-fold mattresses

Tri-fold mattresses fold in two places and are commonly used for twin beds and love seats. They fold parallel to the shorter side of the mattress. They either double up on the seat area with the final portion going up the back of the futon frame, or they have single sections for seat and back, with the final section overlapping the back of the futon frame. Our Tri-fold Futon Mattress will serve in either of these settings.
Be aware that tri-fold mattresses are necessarily thinner than other mattresses to enable them to fold into thirds, so they will be 6” mattresses rather than 8” or 10” thicknesses.

Go to the Sixth Thing to Consider in Choosing a Futon Mattress: Do you prefer Cotton, Foam, Innerspring, or a Combination.
